Toddler Teeth Development

Your little one’s teeth will start to erupt between the ages of six and 12 months old. This is an exciting time for both parents and kids, as they get to experiment with eating new foods! The first two teeth that appear are usually the two middle teeth on the lower arch of their mouth. Then, teeth will continue appearing until about the age of three.
What is Teething?

As your toddler’s teeth are getting ready to grow in, and while they’re erupting, they will be teething. Parents know this infamously as the time when their children experience soreness and elevated body temperature, making them fussy and restless. Some of the common signs that your child is teething include:
- Higher temperature, but less than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit
- Desire to chew hard items and stick objects in their mouth
- Drooling that can lead to facial rashes
- Coughing
- Changes in what they want to eat
- Changes in their sleeping patterns
- Excessive drooling and crying
The good news is that our team can help provide you with helpful tips and insight to ease your little one’s soreness and help both of you sleep a little better!
How to Clean Your Toddler’s Teeth and Gums

Even though your toddler may have only one or two teeth, it’s still important to build good hygiene habits with them. You can do this by routinely brushing and flossing every day, making sure their teeth remain clean and clear of debris and plaque. You can clean both their teeth and gums using a small toothbrush made for toddlers as well as an infant-safe toothpaste. Our office can recommend some brands for you if you aren’t sure which option will be the best for your little one! Gently brush their mouth in circular motions, and once they have teeth that touch, you can add flossing to your daily routine.
